Local attractions include The Great Valley Museum of Natural History, The McHenry Mansion and The Castle Air Museum.
The mild weather conditions of Northern California makes Modesto ideal for year-round outdoor recreation. Watersports such as houseboating, river rafting and boating are popular here. The region has excellent facilities used for camping and golfing. Indoor recreational activities are offered at no cost at Beyer High School's huge public skate park. Yosemite National Park is less than an hour away.
