 Vallejo Forklift Masts - The city of Vallejo is the largest city in Solano County, situated on San Pablo Bay's north-eastern shore. The city got its name after General Mariano Guadalupe and has an estimated population of 120,000.
There are numerous major cities providing employment centers close by, like for instance San Fransisco, Berkeley, Oakland, Walnut Creek/Concord and the Tri Valley area. These locations are easily reachable via the existing transportation system.
There are some major highways that run close to the city, consisting of the State Highways 29 and 37, and the Interstate Highways 80 and 780. These highways make it extremely easy for individuals who work in the major cities close by to get there and back. The Vallejo Bay Link Ferry, that takes less then an hour to move from San Fransisco to Vallejo, is used by over 2000 people per day. The Union Pacific offers rail freight service, and Vallejo Transit provides bus connections to the Bay Area Rapid Transit System and service across town.
There are 2 private airports within the surrounding area, which consist of facilities at Napa County Airport and Buchanan Field in Concord. Within fifty miles there are three main commercial airports, which consist of Oakland, San Francisco and Sacramento. Shipping opportunities for companies are vast, with ports located in Richmond, Sacramento, San Fransisco and Oakland.
The oldest naval base west of Mississippi used to be located on Mare Island. Ever since its decommission in 1996, new houses have been planned and built on it's previous location. Touro University, that is located on the south side of the island, is planning on opening a state of the art cancer research facility. One economic plan of Vallejo is to revive Mare Island, which would be done by the structure of new neighborhoods. There is a lot of rich history and an abundance of national historic landmarks located here, none the least of which is the one of the nations oldest decommissioned shipyard and naval bases. Along with these, there is also a 19th century brick industrial warehouse and several coal shed artist studios. Various other famous historic landmarks are the Alden park, Chapel park and Officers mansions (designated historic landscapes), and the oldest golf course west of the Mississippi. Lastly, the Saint Peters Chapel, which was constructed in the year 1901, houses the largest collection of Louis Comfort Tiffany's stain-glass windows.
